Our services

Engaging Physical Therapy takes a collaborative approach between clients, caregivers, and family. We provide patients a friendly, supportive, and flexible environment designed to engage, motivate and encourage optimized outcomes.

Under the instruction of Mary Helene Chaplin—a highly trained physical therapist with over 30 years of experience—Engaging Physical Therapy offers a variety of physical therapy treatment strategies, including hippotherapy, which uses the movement of the horse as a treatment tool in combination with traditional physical therapy treatment techniques as part of a patient’s plan of care.

Our goal is to enhance a patient’s participation in family, school, and community activities.

We also offer at-home and community based physical therapy services to meet patients in a comfortable setting.

OUR SERVICES

What does physical therapy entail?

First, a Physical Therapy Evaluation will determine whether skilled PT services are appropriate. Then, Mary Helene will select optimum therapeutic treatment tools for your plan of care. This may include hippotherapy (equine movement) in addition to other physical therapy tools.

Mary Helene will work with each patient, family, and appropriate caregivers to develop a specialized approach and plan to meet a patient's individual goals and objectives, and improve their safety, independence and participation in daily routines, recreation and occupations.

Hippotherapy (as described by the American Hippotherapy Association, Inc.) is the skilled and purposeful manipulation of equine (horse) movement as a treatment tool provided by a physical therapist, occupation therapist or speech language pathologist.

When appropriate, it may be used as part of an integrated plan of care with other treatment strategies for enhanced therapeutic outcomes.

What is hippotherapy?

Why hippotherapy?

A horse’s movement offers multiple motor and sensory inputs to the patient that are purposely manipulated by a skilled therapist to facilitate desired responses.

Carryover of improvements seen when off the horse, may include improved balance, ambulation, and performance with daily tasks and activities.
